The Double Whammy: Hair Loss After 50 and Weight Loss

No one warned me about the double whammy.

After 50, many women begin noticing changes in their hair. Hormones shift, hair becomes thinner, and the ponytail that once felt thick suddenly feels a little smaller.

Then I lost 125 pounds.

While I was celebrating better health, more energy, and a life-changing transformation, I started noticing something else-more hair in my brush, on my clothes, and circling the shower drain.

It felt unfair.

I had worked so hard to improve my health. Why was my hair disappearing?

When Two Things Collide

For many women, hair loss after 50 can be caused by hormonal changes. Add significant weight loss to the mix, and your body may experience another trigger for shedding.

The result?

A double whammy.

You finally start feeling better in your own skin, only to find yourself worrying about your hair.

What I Learned

The first lesson was that I wasn’t alone.

The second lesson is you are not less beautiful because your hair is thinner.

The third is there is so much technology and new products out there to help with our confidence.

Finding Solutions That Helped My Confidence

While ‘m still navigating this journey, I’ve also learned that there’s nothing wrong with finding solutions that help you feel more confident along the way.

For me, that has meant exploring products that add volume, improve the appearance of thinning hair, and help me feel more like myself when I look in the mirror.

No product can replace self-confidence, but sometimes a little extra help can make a difficult season easier.

I’ve discovered a few things that have helped me feel less insecure about my hair, including volumizing products, scalp care tools, supplements, and hair extensions designed for women experiencing thinning hair.

I’m sharing some of my favorite finds below in case they help you too. If you’re on a similar journey, I hope they give you the same boost of confidence they’ve given me.

Because while we work on regrowth, we’re still allowed to feel beautiful today.
