There comes a point in life when you realize that starting over isn’t something to fear—it’s something to embrace.
At 53 years old, I’ve learned that life doesn’t stop giving us opportunities simply because we’ve reached a certain age. In many ways, I believe some of the best chapters begin after 50.
Recently, I accepted a another opportunity in the optical industry, and it has reminded me how much I truly enjoy helping people. If you’ve followed my journey for a while, you know I’ve worn many hats over the years—from photographer to entrepreneur, content creator, and now back into a career where serving others is at the heart of what I do.
One thing I didn’t expect was how refreshing it would feel to walk into a workplace filled with kind, welcoming people.
The women I’ve had the privilege of working alongside have reminded me that encouragement isn’t just nice to have—it’s powerful. When you’re surrounded by people who celebrate your successes, answer your questions , and genuinely accept you and what you bring, it changes everything.
Women need more of that.
We spend so much time hearing about competition that we sometimes forget how life-changing support can be.
A smile.
A kind word.
No judgment.
Those things matter.
Working in the optical field has also reminded me why I chose customer service years ago. Helping someone see more clearly isn’t just about glasses—it’s about helping them read a book to their grandchildren, drive with confidence, enjoy a hobby again, or simply experience everyday life with better vision.
Every person who walks through the door has a story, and I love being part of making their day a little easier.
It’s amazing how something as simple as helping someone choose the right pair of glasses can also help restore confidence.
And honestly…
This job has done the same for me.
Having a career in my 50s isn’t about proving anything to anyone else.
It’s about continuing to grow.
It’s about maintaining my independence.
It’s about challenging myself to learn something new.
It’s about showing my daughter—and other women—that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.
Whether your career is full-time, part-time, or you’re just beginning to dream about what’s next, don’t let age convince you that your best opportunities are behind you.
They’re not.
Sometimes they’re just getting started.
I’m incredibly thankful to be part of the team at Opti-Vision 20/20, where patients are treated with kindness and genuine care. If you’re looking for an eye care team that takes the time to listen and help you find the best solution for your vision needs, I’d love to welcome you. And if you know someone searching for an optometry office that truly cares about its patients, I’d be honored if you’d share our name with them.
Thank you for continuing to follow my journey here at Rooted and Radiant.
This space has always been about real life—finding purpose, embracing new beginnings, choosing kindness, and believing that some of life’s greatest blessings arrive when we least expect them.
Here’s to new beginnings, clear vision, and the courage to keep growing.
Because your story isn’t over after 50… it may just be getting started.
